Cork Past & Present
Cork's history, culture, places, people, and events
St. Patrick's Street, affectionately called 'Pana' by older Corkonians, is the main shopping street in Cork and the heart of the city. Since its redevelopment in 2004, it has twice won the award as Ireland's best shopping street. In this section, we present a short history of the street and its redevelopment, brief histories of some of the principal buildings on or near St. Patrick's Street and a selection of old advertisements for shops and businesses on the street. The advertisements are taken from old Cork trade directories.
