The area of south Cork, spanning from Cork Harbour to Innishannon, boasts a number of historic towns including Monkstown, Passage West, Carrigaline, Crosshaven and Kinsale. Other attractions include Fort Camden, Charles Fort and the Old Head of Kinsale. The Royal Cork Yacht Club, based in Crosshaven, was founded in 1720, and is believed to be the oldest yacht club in the world. Kinsale has a rich history, receiving its first charter from Edward III in 1334. Charlesfort, in nearby Summercove, was built in 1678.
