Social Housing in Cork City

Social Housing in Cork City | An Overview by Daire Calnan, BSc Arch

For well over a century in Cork city, what we now call social housing has been a vital element in the lives of Cork people, from the era of Corporation Buildings, Madden’s Buildings, the huge housing estates of Gurranebraher, Ballyphehane, Mayfield and Mahon, to the more varied approach of 21st century housing infill.  Daire Calnan, a recent graduate in architecture, carried out original research on the history and future of social housing in Cork, which we are delighted to make available online here.  Cork City Libraries are very grateful to Daire for making his research publically available.
