St Anne's Park and the adjoining Dr Mary Hearn Park were the first public parks in the Shandon area. Both of these parks were former cemeteries, with graves dating back over centuries. Cork City council opened these renovated spaces as parks in 2010 as part of the wider regeneration of the Shandon area. The parks provide much-needed recreational areas where there was a dearth of green space in in the past.
