Other Information The Miracle Worker was based on the life of deaf-blind Helen Keller (1880-1968), who developed from a spoilt and wild  child due to the absence of discipline from her pitying parents. In desperation they employed Annie Sullivan as a governess in the house, whose responsibility it was to discipline and 'civilise' Helen, but who also taught her to understand words and to read. The Miracle Worker played to packed audiences at the Everyman for ten nights from 19 to 29 September.
